our little nerd

William and I are nerds.

We know it.

And we're ok with it.

It looks like we are raising our own little nerd...

She LOVES staring at the computer.
And she loves spending time with her Daddy.

Together they can spend hours playing on Flickr together.

I just live the face she's making in this one!

Baby it's cold out side

Every year I say the same thing.
Every year I say "this might be our last winter here" so I don't buy a winter coat... because I don't want to spend the money.

But this year I decided "Damn it! I'm tired of being cold!"

So THIS year. William took me to a "down expo," which was really just a floor of down coat shops in People's Square.

I tried on alot of coats.
At one ship I got laughed at by not just one but 4 sales people when the coat they gave me try on wouldn't zip up around my boobs. *glower*

But in the end... I found it... my perfect coat.

I wanted something LONG. To keep me really warm. I've learned that if you have a coat that goes down over your butt it keeps you alot warmer than one that just ends at the waist.
So I figured if I could get something that would go past my KNEES then it would keep me (and my knees) REALLY warm.

I was totally right. This coat is awesome! It's almost TOO warm. I feel like I'm walking around in a sleeping bag. When it's Zero degrees outside I'm all warm and toasty inside my great new coat...

except for my shins...

so I guess I have to buy some boots now. :o) hehehe

OH.. and the best part about this coat? (beside being freaking warm)...

Baby turns 3 Months

During my blogging absence our darling baby turned 3 months old.

She has doubled in size in just these 3 months and we are constantly amazed by the new things she can do.
Like hold up her own head...

Or grab things...
Or sit up!

Every day she is more and more fun to play with. She still loves to be sung to and talked to and her little smile is my favorite thing in the whole world.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

They say that "Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder" but then they also say "Out of Site, Out of Mind"
So which one has it been for you in my absence from blogging?

Over the New Year holiday (or "Western New Year" as the Chinese call it) My dear friend Julie came to visit us. It has been 3 years since I have seen Julie and ALOT has changed in each of our lives. Julie and I were roommates during my brief stint in collage and at the time we were inseparable.
Over the years we have remain dear friends but I admit I was a little nervous for this visit. I wasn't sure if we were still kindred spirits or if we had grow too far apart.

Well I did not need to worry.

After a few short days Julie and I were right back to being caught up and amazing friends.
We can still joke about the silly times we had in college... and even make fun of the same people we made fun of then *cough* MEL.

But this trip was also wonderful for making new memories.
Like sneaking into the JingMao bar even though it was closed,
being mobbed by Chinese women when they see Rosie,
Julie getting felt up by the shop girl who was "measuring" her (true story),
and getting yelled at for taking pictures in the candy store.

I am so happy and blessed to have a friend like Julie and I know now that she is more than just a friend or my college roommate. She will always be part of our family and I'm so happy she got to come and meet our little Rosie,
who lucky to have such an adoring Godmother.

I look forward to the day when we can all go out and get matching Tattoos.

Re-Post: TOO LONG in China

I wrote this a LONG time ago. It's funny to read now. As I was re-reading it some of the things on here I was like "oh yeah.. .that's not normal" I guess I've been here too long. :o)

You Know you live in China (some might say too long) when…

1. You know you live in China when washing your sheets is an all day event.

2. You know you live in China when you husband announces your eating budget is Five Dollars a day.

3. You know you live in China too long when the words “America’s a nice place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there” come out of your mouth.

4. You now you live in china when you own a Koa Jia (mouth cover) and walk around in public with it. (Disclaimer... you'd be surprised how warm you feel when your face is warm.)

5. You know you’ve lived in China too long when you stare at white people and whisper “laowai” (slang for Foreigner) to the person next to you. (oh yeah... and you're a white person too)

6. You know you’ve lived in China too long when you get excited when you see the hello kitty store and say “Ni Hao Xiao Mao!”. and really want to go in side. (it's really shiny!)

7. You know you’ve lived in China too long when you own (and wear) plastic sleeve covers.

8. You know you’ve been in China too long when you look at Family pictures and think “wow white people are really weird looking”

9. You know you’ve been in china TOO LONG when you get in a car and say “wow this is a really nice car” and it’s a FORD FOCUS!

10. You know you’ve been in china too long when you don’t even notice the honking (especially when it’s at you) :o)

11. You know you’ve lived in china too long when you crave moss and donkey for dinner.

12. You know you’ve been in china too long when you cross the street when ever and where ever you feel like.

13. You know you’ve lived in china too long when you can’t remember if the clothes you just bought can actually be worn in the states.

14. You know you’ve been in china too long when all those shiny lacy clothes look really cute.

15. You know you live in china when you decide what to buy at the grocery store by how much it weighs.

16. You know you’ve live in china too long when you don’t assume the Poo you see on the sidewalk is dog poo.

17. … You’re a white girl and you cook with chop sticks b/c it’s “easier”.

18. When you’re walking down the street and 4 people around you light up and you think, “hey I’d like to have a cigarette” and you've never smoked a day in your life... you’ve lived in China too long!

19. You know you’ve in china if street sweeping day means men walking up the street sweeping with brooms made of tree branches.

20. You know you’ve lived in China TOO long when standing in line is REALLY difficult for you. :o)
