24/365 Thursday

I've always loved Thursdays. I don't know what it is about them that always make me happy, but it just seems to be one of the best days of the week. I'm always happy on Thursdays.

Maybe it's just that we are past the midweek lull and on our way to the weekend but there isn't the Friday pressure to get stuff done before the weekend. It seems like a hopeful day.

After I graduated high school I worked summers at a plumbing store. Thursday was the day the boss wouldn't come in. We all still did our work but we didn't have to do it with him yelling at us. Maybe that's when I started loving Thursdays.

Anyway, I like Thursdays. Here's some fun things we did this Thursday:

Bonnie Rose and I put stickers on Valentine's Day cards that we are going to send to friends in China. I also tried to get her to "sign" them. That proved harder than I thought it would.

Baby Girl discovered the stack of VHS's in Nana's office. She loves sitting by them and looking at them. It's so strange to me that these are already so ancient in terms of technology. When she's older these will be like 8 tracks are to me now. She won't have any memory of them being in use because they were out dated even before she was born. But when I was her age they weren't even invented yet. That just seems weird to me.

For dinner Bonita had her first piece of steak. I've tried to give her meat before but she does really like it. Which is fine with me. I'd be fine if she ate only beans and veggies. But last night she actually took a piece of steak and chewed and sucked on it for a long time before she finally gave it to the dog.

And speaking of the dog... Bonita Rose loves to play in the dog food! She doesn't usually put it in her mouth, but she does love to feed it to the dog. She also likes to dump it out and then put it all back in the bowl. Her Nana is so nice and patient to let to do that and even plays in it with her.  I love these girls.
One thing I love about Thursdays in America is the TV shows that are on. I feel silly and very American in admitting this, but I am enjoying being able to watch American TV. Not that I missed it in China, but I am enjoying having it.

The Thursday night line up is my favorite because there are three shows that I love to watch. Big Bang Theory, The Mentalist, and then Outsourced.

Bonita loves it when we all sit in the TV room and she can play while we watch TV. She likes to have us all in the same room and she knows that we are all watching her more than we are watching the TV.

Last night she wanted to get in on the action too. She found a book she hadn't read in a long time and wanted William to read it to her. So we paused the TV show, and we all watched her enjoy her book.

I love how much she loves reading books. This one plays music and she was dancing to each tune. Look how happy it makes her!
So that was our Thursday. Happy Friday Every one and have a wonderful weekend!

Christmas comes late 12/365

Today was a good day. First of all this was the first day that Baby didn't have any more fever. She's still been a little fussy and more tired than usual but she's feeling a lot better. She took 3 naps today but she also felt well enough to ask to go on a walk. So William took her out for a long walk and she got to go out and pet the goats. Thank you every one for prayer for her.

Also, Christmas arrived later for us!!
Luke and Katie gave us a cappuccino machine for Christmas and today they also sent us espresso cups.
Started our Saturday off with some great cappuccinos

Then William took Baby for her walk and when was coming back in the house he found a package that the postman had left on the porch. The bad part about that is that my mom's dog (yogi) is really annoying and eats any mail that is left on the porch. They are supposed to put boxes in a parcel drop but sometimes they forget. Luckily William rescued the mail before Yogi ate it all.

Anyway, this package came all the way from Singapore! It's a book that our friend Shelly Bryant wrote and check it out...
William wrote the intro!
You can buy it here at genremal.com and check out Shelly's Blog here.
I've already started reading the book and LOVE IT. Shelly is a wonderful writer. I'm also very impressed with William's intro. Please check it out.

Well we better get going to bed. Baby is still a little fussy from her teeth but she's doing a lot better. I'll leave you with a picture of her helping her Nana on the computer while talking on the speaker phone to Aunt Jenny.

A matching pair 7/365

When I was very young I loved matching clothes. My sister and I had several matching dresses and it was fun wearing them together. Sometimes I would even try to "accidentally" wear the same shirt as my brother so we could match. It rarely worked because he would always change when he saw me.

In China it was very common for couples to wear matching shirts when they went out. We called them "couples shirts". I loved going out on Friday nights and seeing all the couples in their matching shirts walking down the street.

I still love matching clothes.
For Christmas William's mom sent me and baby matching Christmas PJ's. As you can imagine I love them. I know that some day Rosie is going to grow out of liking to wear matching clothes with me. Until then I plan to take full advantage of it while I can.
I love this picture of Bonita Rose. She just started making this face at us (she learned it from her Nana). It cracks me up every time.
OH and this book she's holding is her favorite bed time book. She likes to sit in bed and read it by her self.
She's such a smart baby to be studying German all by her self.

"I can go ANYwhere.."

I found out this weekend the Reading Rainbow is finally going off the air after 26 years. Apparently, according to NPR, the only two children's shows that ran longer than that are Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street.
sigh.
Even though I haven't watched Reading Rainbow in a few years... I think I watched it about 3 years ago when I was home sick from work one day... I always felt kind of happy and comforted knowing that it was still out there... and that Mr. Burton was still hosting it.
Growing up we watched it every day and I was so in love with LeVar Burton. :o) Actually I started watching Star Trek because LeVar Burton was on it haha.

But seriously. This show taught me to love books and to love reading. I remember I would watch it and then go to the library and try and find the books that I saw on the show.(even if we'd already read them). And every summer I would participate in the Summer reading program because of this show.

At our local Library there was always a table of "Reading Rainbow Books" that I would always check out b/c ... if they were reading rainbow recommendations they MUST be good.

Anyway, I'm defiantly going to miss Reading Rainbow. I really hope the DVDs come out so I can raise my kids with this show.

I'll leave you with the opening song of the show that I STILL know all the words to...
